A slow-travel journal for people who travel in twos.
Spoilme is an editorial travel journal about romance and the road. We publish itineraries, rooms, essays and rituals — for couples who take the long way around and don't feel the need to prove it.
The desk
An editorial desk, not a booking engine.
We publish twelve destinations, six itineraries, ten rooms and a handful of essays per issue. Everything is chosen by the editors, nothing is chosen by an algorithm, and nothing is accepted as a comped stay. If you can book it easily online, you probably don't need us. If you'd like a second opinion from someone who's slept in the room, you're in the right place.
Spoilme is filed from the Mediterranean coast, most of the year, and from wherever the next issue is. We travel slowly. We take notes by hand. We publish one letter a month and one issue a year.
How we choose.
We buy our own trips. The journal is funded by a small subscription and a partnership with our sister publication — see below. We do not take press stays, blogger discounts or "familiarisation trips" from tourism boards. Rooms are booked, meals are paid for, taxis are hailed. When we recommend a hotel, we've paid the same price you would.
We only publish places we've been. Every destination in the journal has been visited by an editor within the last three years. Every hotel has been slept in — not toured. Every restaurant has been ordered from twice.
We keep it small. Twelve destinations is enough for a year. Ten rooms is enough for a bookshelf. Six itineraries is enough to plan the trips you'll actually take. If we can't get behind an entry, we don't include it.
We publish honest notes. If a hotel got worse, we say so. If a destination is a difficult first trip for a new couple, we say so. If a restaurant is closed on Mondays and doesn't take card, we say so. We assume the reader is an adult with a phone and a Wednesday afternoon to plan.
Sister journal
In partnership with Dear Jane.
Spoilme is the travel wing of Dear Jane — our sister journal about modern romance. If Spoilme is where two people go, Dear Jane is where two people meet.
The editorial voice, the pace, the rules about comped work — all shared between the two. If you subscribed to one, you'll recognise the other. Between the two of them we cover most of the terrain from a Friday-night message to a Sunday flight home.
Visit Dear Jane →Letters, tips, complaints.
Corrections, small tips, and complaints of a certain quality are answered by hand. Send them to letters@spoilme.me. Please include the date of the trip and, if it's a hotel note, the room number.
Advertising and editorial partnerships.
We publish a very small number of long-form editorial partnerships per year, only with hotels and journals we would already write about unpaid. Enquiries to partners@spoilme.me.
